On February 23 we launched a totally new Jongla® browser solution. We have been continuing its development and in this blog post we update our users, revealing the new features we have added to the service.

The idea of a browser solution is to enable our users to enjoy the benefits of Jongla just like any native mobile app, without the need for downloads or worries about compatibility with their devices. Jongla browser-based solutions are currently available for web and mobile browsers and as a Facebook app.

Commenting

A handy new feature on Jongla is the ability to comment on public messages. Commenting makes the whole sharing experience more fun and engaging. To be able to offer this feature we have integrated a third-party service called Disqus; a commenting tool widely used on many global sites such as CNN, Time and Fox, to mention but a few. The disadvantage of using a third-party service is that the use of Disqus requires additional registering.

Share to Twitter

One of Jongla’s coolest new features is the ability to share messages to your Twitter feeds. Our intention is to make the whole social media sharing experience as easy as possible. Now our users have three sharing options: you can share a message directly on your Facebook wall, via your Twitter feed, or post it on your Jongla wall.

You can share multiple files, an unlimited amount of text, and high-quality photos and videos of any length straight to your favorite social media platform (without adding any private receiver to the message). Just connect your Jongla account to your Facebook and/or Twitter account and you are ready to share.

A tip: In the current version we are also openly testing a new cross-platform social media sharing feature with the other social media services. Just add the # mark and the following keywords to your message:

• #fb - to share your message on your Facebook wall
• #twitter - to share your message on your Twitter feed
• #jongla - to share your message on Jongla wall

Embedded videos and Pinterest support

One really handy feature we’ve added to the service is the support of embedded videos. Whenever you find interesting content, for example from YouTube, you just copy the URL of the video to your message and Jongla does the rest. The receiver will automatically see an embedded video in your message which they can watch straight away. If the video, or other content, is something your friend likes, all of the most frequently used social media plugins are there to facilitate instant sharing. We have also just added Pinterest support, which makes it possible to ‘Pin’ content to one of the fastest growing new social media sites. 

Other updates

In addition to all of these updates, a number of minor updates have been released and the site has been optimized for faster service and better user experience. A couple more new features worth a mention are:

• Ability to change password in your edit profile page.
• Ability to send messages to email (sending big files that wouldn't otherwise fit in an email).

Jongla®, a device- and platform-independent mobile messaging service just got better. With Jongla you are free to share and chat with your friends for free. We have just released a new iOS 1.0.5 version for iPhones. Below we explain more in detail what’s new in the latest version.

Faster and better iOS 5 support

In this project we went back to basics and used a lot of time to make the iOS 5 support and sending and receiving messages better. The new Jongla iPhone app runs smoothly with iOS 5 and with the very latest iOS 5.1 version. A few bugs have been fixed, leading to better response times in our tests. The application supports instant messaging and push notifications. In the new version we managed to develop the push notification functionality further, which means that users can instantly receive messages from their friends.

One of the coolest new features released in this version is the ability to share Jongla messages directly with your Facebook friends by posting them on your Facebook wall. The new Jongla iPhone app makes it very easy to share messages with your Facebook friends and acts as a handy tool to update your Facebook wall. With Jongla you can share text, high quality photos and videos of any length straight to your Facebook wall. Just connect your app with your Facebook account and you are ready to share. In the current version we also offer cross-platform social media sharing with the other social media services. Just use the # mark and the following keywords:

What we have just released is basically a totally new social networking site with a mobile twist. Jongla service in the nutshell

Jongla allows you to send unlimited amount of mobile messages to any mobile device in the world for free. Jongla messages can contain an unlimited amount of images, videos and text. In order to provide our users with the new level of mobile messaging capabilities, we built our own infrastructure that is not limited to any specific mobile device or platform. This allows us to deliver a new level of experience to mobile devices and desktops. In order to use our service, your friends don’t need to install any additional software. The only requirements are that they can receive SMS messages and have a working mobile browser. We wanted to take the best of SMS messaging and add additional killer features:

Jongla service lets you message from your preferred device. If you want to message from Facebook, you can. If you prefer to do it from your browser without installing additional software on your device, you can do so with our web client. In order to provide high quality service and cover our costs, we put a small ad that recipients see when they open Jongla messages. It’s non-intrusive and is only shown for a few seconds before your message. You can also rate ads (like/dislike), and because of that we hope to offer you relevant ads in the future. As of this date, Jongla has native applications on iPhone, Android, Windows Phone and Symbian platforms. We want to bring you the highest level of user experience that you can only get with native apps. We truly believe in our vision of creating a mobile messaging experience without boundaries for everybody in the world, and we’re delivering it one step at a time.

Mobile applications - new features

In October 2011 we released our first Windows Phone application and a new generation of Android and iOS apps. With the latest version update of Jongla service we’ve released several new features that will make the messaging more fun. Our flagship applications on Android and iPhone platform support realtime chatting with your friends (realtime chat support also coming to other native applications soon). If your friends don’t have a Jongla application installed, they will still get the message which they can view using their phone’s mobile browser. We have also overhauled the interface of already existing applications and streamlined our registration process, making our apps even easier to use. Push notifications for iPhone client is another feature that should make chatting with your friends even more accessible. This allows you to receive chat messages in real-time, even if Jongla application is closed. We currently support following platforms natively:

• Nokia and Symbian devices with our Symbian client

Our applications have been downloaded thousands of times, which gives us energy to keep investing more time to make them better.
